TEDxTallaght 2017: The Propagation of Ideas

"Men are mortal. So are ideas. An idea needs propagation as much as a plant needs watering.

Otherwise both will wither and die."

B. R. Ambedkar

TEDxTallaght brings together inspired thinkers and curious souls for an evening of thought provoking talks in the Civic Theatre, Tallaght. TEDxTallaght 2017 welcomes speakers from many disciplines who each want to achieve a deeper understanding of the world. The event will be held in mid October 2017 subject to licence,

We are looking for speakers that have great ideas relevant to the current theme – anything from building a better mousetrap to changing how we live, work, play, and think about the world around us. We want international speakers, national speakers and of course local speakers who have innovative ideas specific to Dublin or Tallaght. Submit your contact information and a little about yourself along with a 1-2 minute video of you telling us about your idea for your talk.

Or suggest a speaker – if you know someone that you think should be on our stage – please do make a suggestion!

Applications can be submitted to [email protected] and the closing date for entries is Friday 19th May 2017. In accordance with TED guidelines, speakers are not paid but we may be able to cover some small travel expenses.

Speaker Benefits

A key benefit of speaking at TEDxTallaght is that your presentation will be recorded live and has the potential to be seen worldwide. Offered free to the public, TED and TEDx Talks have proven extraordinarily effective at spreading ideas.

Speaker Expectations

Have you been selected to talk or are you thinking about speaking? Here are the Ten Commandments of giving a successful TEDx Talk!

Thou Shalt Not Simply Trot Out thy Usual Shtick.

Thou Shalt Dream a Great Dream, or Show Forth a Wondrous New Thing, Or Share Something Thou Hast Never Shared Before.

Thou Shalt Reveal thy Curiosity and Thy Passion.

Thou Shalt Tell a Story.

Thou Shalt Freely Comment on the Utterances of Other Speakers for the Sake of Blessed Connection and Exquisite Controversy.

Thou Shalt Not Flaunt thine Ego. Be Thou Vulnerable. Speak of thy Failure as well as thy Success.

Thou Shalt Not Sell from the Stage: Neither thy Company, thy Goods, thy Writings, nor thy Desperate need for Funding; Lest Thou be Cast Aside into Outer Darkness.

Thou Shalt Remember all the while: Laughter is Good.

Thou Shalt Not Read thy Speech.

Thou Shalt Not Steal the Time of Them that Follow Thee.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!
